Dorothy E. Wenzel, 104, formerly of Stratford, died on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Wells Nature View Assisted Living, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at Sauter / Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford and from 9:30 am on Saturday until service time at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. A St. Joseph’s Parish Council of Catholic Women rosary service will be held at 6:30 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Town of Eau Pleine, Marathon County, and serving as pallbearers will be grandchildren, Dale Wenzel, Michael Wenzel, Joe Wenzel, Emily Gutierrez, Amy Stoeckly and Elizabeth Schuebel.

Dorothy was born on April 15, 1913 in the Town of Cleveland, Marathon County, to Alphonse and Pauline (Weber) Kaiser. She attended St. Joseph’s Parochial School, Stratford and graduated from Stratford High School. She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Wenzel on June 5, 1940 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Stratford. He died on September 3, 2000.

Dorothy was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening. She volunteered at St. Joseph’s Hospital, was a member of the Homemakers Club, Ladies Altar Society and held many offices at St. Joseph’s Church.

She is survived by her 7 sons, Alan (Maria) of Colorado Springs, CO, Robert (Sharon) of Junction City, John (Mari Ann – deceased) of Green Bay, William (Kathy) of Plymouth, George (Betty) of Rio Ranch, New Mexico, Paul (Cleo) of Somerset and Bernie (Sally) of Edgar. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She is further survived by 4 sisters, Melanie Krebsback, Grace Lensmire, Anna Mae Rasmussen and Margie Krautkramer and 2 sisters-in-law, Betty Kaiser and Winifred Kaiser.

She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers and sisters, Oliver, Melvin, Ralph and Virgil Kaiser and Rose Marie Cegielski and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chet Cegielski, Warren Lensmire, Cliff Rasmussen, Claude Krautkramer, Cyrilla Kaiser and Ray Krebsback.

In lieu of flowers, the family will designate a memorial in Dorothy’s name.

The Wenzel family also wish to express our sincere thanks to Kris and her hospice team and the staff at Wells Nature View for their excellent care of our mother.
