Donald James Weber

Donald James Weber, 94, of Stratford, died on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at the House of the Dove, Marshfield.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Stratford. Fr. Sengole Vethanayagam will officiate, with music provided by St. Joseph’s Funeral Choir. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in the Town of Eau Pleine, where military rites will be conducted by Stratford Memorial VFW Post #6352.
Donald was born in Stratford on January 11, 1923 to Peter and Katherine (Schroepfer) Weber. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Stratford High School in 1941. After graduation he worked with his father in farming and well-drilling. He later served in the Korean War with the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade and was honorably discharged in 1951. After returning home, he worked for Klemme Feeds and again with his father drilling wells. He also drove school bus and worked part-time for the Village of Stratford, then full-time for the village for 30 years, retiring in 1989. After retirement he worked as a crossing guard for the village and summer maintenance/lawn mowing for the Stratford School District.
He married Joann Weber (Bahr) on September 5, 1959. He was later married to Alvina (Adamski) Winistorfer at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville on July 19, 1992 until his death.
Donnie was a life member of Stratford Memorial VFW Post #6352 where he served 2 ½ years as Post Commander and 15 ½ years as Post Adjutant Quartermaster. He served 40 years with the Stratford Fire Department, 13 years of which he served as Fire Chief, and also was on the Stratford Village Board for 4 years. In 1956 he was the co-chairman for the Stratford Lumberjack Days, and was named as Stratford’s Finest in 1999.
In his early years, Donnie loved to hunt and fish. During his retirement years, he built many small barns, doghouses and rabbit hutches. He loved visiting with family and friends at his home and in Stratford’s local restaurants. He enjoyed watching and listening to the Packer and Brewer games and many other sporting events. He also enjoyed playing cards and the occasional trip to the casino.
Donnie is survived by his wife Alvina, his three children: Lori (Tim) Yonash of Stevens Point and his three grandchildren, Casey, Tommy and Theresa Yonash, Michael of Milford, CT, and his daughter Kris (Keith) Strey of Marshfield. He is also survived by Alvina’s children: Susan (David) Jaster of Minocqua, Wayne (Carol) Winistorfer of Oshkosh, Jim (Karen) Winistorfer of Mequon, Dale (Rhonda) Winistorfer of Eau Claire, Steve Winistorfer of Madison, June (rich) Krueger of Rozellville, Mary (Gary) Wussow of Edgar, and Pete (Kim) Winistorfer of Marshfield along with their 22 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Bernice Weber of Stratford, and many nieces and nephews.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, three sisters and three brothers, Eleanor (Doc) Simmons, Marion (Dick) Bradley, Catherine (John) Marx, Arthur Weber, Arnold (Annie) Weber, and James Weber.
Donnie was a life-long resident of Stratford and a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated in his name to the House of the Dove or St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and School.
The family would like to thank the personnel, especially the nursing staff, at the House of the Dove and Home Hospice for their kind and personal care in the last months. This was greatly appreciated!
