MARSHFIELD – A Marshfield woman has been arrested in the death of a Marshfield man, whose body was found in the McMillan Marsh late last year.
The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office says 20-year-old Audrey Benson will face charges in connection with the death of 20-year-old Christian “Chris” Schauer. Benson was arrested Feb. 22, and is due in Marathon County Circuit Court on Feb. 23.
Schauer’s body was discovered by a fur trapper Dec. 29 at the south end of Abe Lincoln Avenue just south of Swamp Road in the Township of Spencer. Authorities said foul play was evident. A father and son were arrested Feb. 9 in the Stratford area, after Schauer’s missing vehicle was found at the home of 19-year-old Jared Carl in the town of Eau Pleine. His father, 50-year-old Shawn Carl, was also arrested, after Jared told investigators his father shot Schauer five to six times during an apparent drug deal gone bad. The older Carl remains in the Marathon County Jail on a $1 million cash bond, and is due in court March 8.
