Wisconsin Rapids Assumption stuns Auburndale boys basketball

AUBURDNALE — Wisconsin Rapids Assumption ended Auburndale’s 16-game Marawood Conference South Division winning streak with a 36-35 victory in boys basketball action Friday night at Auburndale High School.

Auburndale led 9-0 to start the game before Assumption pulled ahead 19-15 at halftime with a 10-3 run in the second quarter.

The Apaches outscored Assumption (4-1, 1-1 Marawood South) 12-9 in the fourth but came up one point short.

Matt Nikolay had 10 points and four assists, and Josh VanShoick and Alex Marth each scored nine points for the Apaches (2-1, 1-1 Marawood South).

Auburndale shot just 32 percent from the field (12 of 37) and was 1 of 15 from 3-point range.

Auburndale’s next game is Tuesday at Pittsville.
