Marshfield girls, boys basketball teams sweep Wisconsin Rapids

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Marshfield girls and boys basketball teams swept Wisconsin Rapids in a Wisconsin Valley Conference doubleheader Friday night at Lincoln High School.

The Marshfield girls won 63-40, and the Tigers boys followed that up with a 53-43 victory.

The Marshfield girls are now 5-1 and remain perfect in the Wisconsin Valley Conference, improving to 3-0. Wisconsin Rapids is now 1-5 and 0-3 in the conference.

The Marshfield boys team evens its record, improving to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the WVC. Rapids suffered its first loss, falling to 6-1 and 2-1 in the conference.

In the girls game, Caitlin Michaelis scored 19 points, and Ellie Kummer had 18 points for Marshfield. The two combined to make 7 of 17 shots from 3-point range as Marshfield was 9 of 23 overall from beyond the arc.

Kendra Lysne had 14 points, and Victoria Hansen had nine points and 12 rebounds for Wisconsin Rapids.

The Marshfield boys led 15-5 after the first quarter and never relinquished the advantage.

The Tigers made seven 3-pointers, three from Jordan Schlinsog, who led Marshfield with 16 points. Adam Fravert added 11 points. The Tigers were 16 of 18 from the free throw line in the win.

The Marshfield girls host Superior in a nonconference game Saturday, and the boys are off until Dec. 29 when they host Eau Claire Memorial.
