Top-ranked Marathon too much for Stratford girls basketball
Tigers fall to 9-3 after home loss

STRATFORD — Marathon opened up a 23-point lead by halftime and went on to defeat Stratford 61-41 in a Marawood Conference South Division girls basketball game Friday night at Stratford High School.
Marathon, ranked No. 1 in this week’s Wissports.net Division 4 state coaches poll, made 20 of 22 free throws, including a perfect 10 of 10 in the first half, on its way to the victory. The Raiders are now 11-1 overall and 6-0 in the Marawood South. Stratford falls to 9-3 and 3-3 in the conference.
Olivia Meurette scored 18 points, and Julie Anderson added 13 for Marathon.
Chelsey Gliniecki came off the bench and scored all of her team-high 10 points in the first half for Stratford.
The Tigers’ next game is Jan. 15 at home against Northland Lutheran.
