Marathon hands Auburndale boys basketball sixth loss in a row

Apaches host Northland Lutheran on Tuesday

MARATHON — Caleb Weinfurter hit five 3-pointers and scored a team-high 17 points, but Auburndale was not able to overcome a slow start and lost 57-47 to Marathon at Marathon High School on Thursday night in a Marawood Conference South Division boys basketball matchup.

Collin Hawkins added 15 points for the Apaches, who lost for the sixth-straight time and fell to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in the Marawood South.

Marathon was ahead 33-21 at halftime and maintained its lead throughout.

Auburndale had 19 turnovers, and Marathon (8-1, 4-0 Marawood South) had 13 offensive rebounds.

Preston Wirkus had 15 points for Marathon.

Auburndale hosts Northland Lutheran on Tuesday.
