STRATFORD — Marathon pounded out 12 hits and took advantage of five Stratford errors to beat the Tigers 9-4 in a Marawood Conference South Division softball game Monday at Hilgemann Field.

Stratford (12-5 overall) maintains its lead in the conference standings, but now three teams sit with only one loss in Marawood South play.

Stratford (8-1), Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (7-1), and Marathon (6-1) are all in position to win the conference title as the season dwindles down during the next few weeks.

Stratford is at Assumption on Tuesday and at Marathon on Monday, May 16. Assumption plays at Marathon on Thursday.

The game was tied 1-1 before Marathon scored twice in the third on an RBI single by Amanda Kind and a Stratford error.

Two more Tigers errors led to a four-run fourth for the Raiders (10-3 overall).

Stratford closed to within 7-4 before Marathon added single tallies in the sixth and seventh innings.

Kiana Weiler had two of Stratford’s five hits. She also suffered the loss on the mound, striking out six and walking two.
