Rockets win season opener, host Columbus Catholic on Friday

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

SPENCER — Bobby Pilz tossed a two-hit shutout to propel the Spencer baseball team to a 4-0 shutout of Neillsville in the Rockets’ season opener Tuesday at Spencer High School.

Pilz tossed six no-hit innings before giving up back-to-back hits to lead off the seventh. He responded by striking out the side to preserve the shutout. In the game Pilz struck out nine and walked one.

Pilz went 2-for-4 at the plate; Jonny Tomke walked four times out of the leadoff spot in the lineup; and Hunter Luepke added a single, a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases for Spencer.

Spencer hosts Columbus Catholic on Friday.
