Schillinger’s 25 points lifts Stratford girls basketball past Newman Catholic

Tigers improve to 11-3 with home win

STRATFORD — The Stratford girls basketball team busted open a tight game in the second half to beat Wausau Newman Catholic 60-49 in a Marawood Conference South Division contest Tuesday night at Stratford High School.

The Tigers led 26-25 at halftime before surging past Newman with a 34-24 second half.

Stratford’s Savannah Schillinger scored 17 of her game-high 25 points in the second half, which included three 3-pointers. Macie Frueh added 13 points and eight assists, making 5 of 6 free throws in the second half, for the Tigers (11-3, 5-3 Marawood South).

Abbey Fox had 16 points to lead Newman (5-10, 2-6 Marawood South).

Stratford is back in action Friday when it hosts Auburndale. The game will be broadcast on WOSQ-FM 92.3 and wdlbwosq.com.
