Columbus Catholic girls tennis edges Lakeland

Dons sweep three doubles matches

MINOCQUA — Marshfield Columbus Catholic swept the three doubles matches and beat Lakeland 4-3 in a Great Northern Conference dual meet Tuesday.

The Dons’ No. 1 team of Ruthey Schultz and Ada Inman and the No.3 team of Catherine Pinter and Stephanie Johnson each needed three sets to win as did Becca Wirthlin at No. 2 singles.

The No. 2 team of Neale Tracy and Linsdey Schultz won in straight sets for Columbus (2-1 GNC).

The Dons host Medford on Thursday.

Singles: 1. Ali Bognar (L) def. Marica Garcia 6-3, 6-3; 2. Becca Wirthlin (CC) def. Esther Yeung 4-6, 6-4, 7-5; 3. Riley Curtis (L) def. Lauren Derfus 6-2, 6-4; 4. Morgan Ahrens (L) def. Marion Schneider 1-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Doubles: 1. Ruthey Schultz-Ada Inman (CC) def. Laura Rodrigues-Rachel Koester 1-6, 6-2, 6-3; 2. Neale Tracy-Lindsey Schultz (CC) def. Madison Mueth-Alyssa Meier 6-2, 6-1; 3. Catherine Pinter-Stephanie Johnson (CC) def. Kailey Godfrey-Lauren Godfrey 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

Records: Columbus Catholic 2-1 Great Northern Conference; Lakeland 2-4 GNC.
