Richard Harold Yost, 82, of Carthage, North Carolina passed away on Thursday July 10, 2025.
Richard was the son of the late Harold (Pete) and Marjorie Ann (Gries) Yost and was born in Owen, Wis. He is preceded in death by his son Daryl "Yogi" Yost, brother Thomas Yost and brothers-in-law Jasper Baker, Robert Wachholz and Joseph Hildebrandt.
Richard served during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army and was a long time member of American Legion Post #296 of Vass, NC .
He loved bear hunting and fishing trips with his son Gerald to the coast.
Richard was a Deacon and he and his wife had been members of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Carthage for over 60 years. He was a certified welder and taught at Sandhills Community College. He loved to help others, either volunteering at church or on job sites. He was known to be able to fix anything.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Helen (Bobbitt) Yost, son Gerald (Sheila) Yost of Carthage, granddaughter Mica (Samuel) Dexter of Raeford, his grandson Derrick Yost of Carthage, great grandchildren Tanner, Gunner, Jasper and Nova, brother Barry (Sharon) Yost and sisters Shirley Wachholz, Nancy Hildebrandt and Mary (Bill) Hebert all of Wisconsin, brother-in-law Oscar (Joyce) Bobbitt of Southern Pines, NC, sister-in-law Catherine Baker of Whispering Pines, NC and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors and the American Legion was held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery on Monday July 14th with Pastor Gregg Newton officiating.
May he rest in Peace.
