From the Hub City Times news editor: Hello, Marshfield

Posted

Hello, Marshfield!

I am incredibly excited and honored to join the Hub City Times team as your news editor.

For the past year, I have had the pleasure of working with the Hub City Times as a staff writer. Now, I am excited to begin this next chapter and take on a new role with a newspaper that has become such a meaningful part of my life.

I grew up in the small town of Loyal, just a short drive from Marshfield. My love of writing began at a very young age. In elementary school, we were introduced to creative writing, and as I got older, I found myself writing all kinds of papers and projects for school.

My first creative story was written when I was in first grade. We were given the opportunity to create a story of our choosing, and I still remember the excitement of having my story bound and turned into something that looked like a real book. That was the moment I fell in love with writing.

From there, I began writing short stories and poems whenever I had the opportunity. When I attended UW–Wood County here in Marshfield, I took as many writing courses as I could. Writing has always been something I enjoyed, but more than that, it has always been something I felt passionate about.

Eventually, I settled down in Marshfield and made this community my home. About a year ago, an opportunity came along that allowed me to combine my love of writing with my love for the community I now call home. I was introduced to Kris, MMC senior editor, and began my journey as a freelance writer.

Over the past year, I have had the opportunity to meet people throughout the community, hear their stories and learn more about the people and organizations that make Marshfield special. When the opportunity to become editor became available, I knew I wanted to take that next step.

Writing for the Hub City Times has allowed me to do something I have loved since I was a child. Now, as Editor, I have the opportunity to continue telling those stories while learning even more about the newspaper industry and the community I am fortunate enough to call home.

As I step into this new role, one of my biggest goals is to continue building relationships throughout the community and making sure local voices and stories have a place in the Hub City Times. There are so many people, businesses, organizations, events and everyday moments that make a community what it is, and I want to help shine a light on those stories.

I also want this newspaper to be a place where readers feel comfortable reaching out. If you have a story idea, know someone doing something great in the community, have an event coming up, or simply have feedback or a question, I would love to hear from you.

You can reach me at dbraun@mmclocal.com.

I am grateful for the opportunity to take on this role and excited for everything that lies ahead. I have always believed that every person has a story worth telling, and I look forward to discovering and sharing many more of those stories right here in Marshfield.

Thank you for welcoming me into this new role. I look forward to meeting more of you, hearing your stories and, most of all, being your news editor.

Here’s to the next chapter of the Hub City Times!
