Posted

Jerold F. Weis “Jerry,” age 90, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family while under the care of Compassus Hospice.

Born on October 16, 1935, at the home farm in the Town of Day to Alois and Loretta (Kloos) Weis, he grew up in the Rozellville area. He attended St. Andrew’s Parochial School and later graduated from Marshfield Senior High School. From a young age, he developed a strong work ethic and deep sense of responsibility that guided him throughout his life.

In October of 1955, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country. His service included travel overseas to Japan before receiving an honorable discharge at Fort Sheridan in August of 1958. Military service remained an important part of his life, and he valued the friendships he formed with fellow veterans.

On April 28, 1962, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Lutz at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Rozellville. Together they shared more than 63 years of marriage and built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work while raising four daughters. Being a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather brought him great pride and joy.

In 1972, the family moved from the farm into Marshfield where he worked for the City of Marshfield. Known as a man who could do just about anything, he was truly a jack of all trades and worked in maintenance for many years before retiring at the end of 1991.

Faith and community played an important role in his life. A longtime member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield, he was active in several organizations including the Knights of Columbus, the VFW where he was a member for more than 50 years, the American Legion, and the Eagle’s Club. Steak feeds and time spent visiting with friends and fellow veterans were among the gatherings he enjoyed most.

A generous and helpful person by nature, he dedicated many years as a blood donor through the American Red Cross, donating many gallons throughout his lifetime. Helping others extended into his daily life as well, often assisting local Amish families by driving them where they needed to go.

Many cherished memories were created at the family cabin, where time outdoors was shared with loved ones. Teaching grandchildren how to shoot a rifle during deer hunting season, walking through the woods, snowmobiling, and enjoying the quiet beauty of the open land were among the moments he treasured. Summers at the cabin often included picking cherries together, a simple tradition that brought laughter, stories, and time spent side by side with family.

Fishing was another favorite pastime, and any opportunity to get out on the water was gladly taken. Swimming and fishing at Sherwood Park were among his favorite pastimes, and he often took his daughters to Phillips, where they enjoyed time on the water with his brother Kenny and his family. Passing his love of fishing on to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him particular happiness. Family trips were also a highlight over the years, including travels out west to visit Yellowstone, fishing trips to Canada, and many memorable trips to Colorado where he went elk hunting with friends and family.

Time with family meant the most to him. Road trips with his daughters and grandchildren were always special, and he was known for staying busy, especially when cutting and stacking firewood. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren will fondly remember the sweet treats he always seemed to have on hand, especially root beer barrels and Double Bubble bubble gum.

Those who will forever cherish his memory include his wife, Mary Weis; daughters, Debra, Jane, Dottie, and Julie Weis, all of Marshfield; grandchildren, Amanda (Jason) Koopman of Loyal, Elisha (James) Weinfurtner of Loyal, Shannon (Ben) Swiech of Granton, Joseph Weis of Marshfield, Jamie (Kasey) Jakobi of La Crosse, and Stephanie (Tre) Gaffney of Arpin; and great-grandchildren, Jane (Kyle), Rebecca, Autumn, Jayda, Sophie, Mitchell, Nicole, Elizabeth, Thomas, Tre DJ, O’Reilly, and Michael.

Also surviving are brothers, Cyril (Donna) Weis of Milwaukee and Jim Weis of Rozellville; sister, Jeanette Burzynski of Florida; sisters-in-law, Sheila Weis, Delores Weis and Karlene Lutz, all of Marshfield; and brother-in-law, Richard Lutz of Marshfield along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Awaiting him in heaven are his parents, Alois and Loretta Weis; in-laws, Dale and Ann Lutz; great-granddaughter, Lilly; brothers, Kenneth, Raymond (Susie), John, and Dennis (Barbara) Weis; sisters, Mildred (Roger) Maguire, Anna (Herman) Weigel, Catherine Weis, Dorothy (Robert) Ertl, and Rosetta (Norman) Sebastian; sisters-in-law, Barbara Weis, Shirley Martin, and Bonnie Lutz; and brothers-in-law, Ralph Burzynski, Robert (Donna) Lutz, and Gene Lutz.

His life was defined by hard work, generosity, and a deep love for family. Passing down traditions—whether during deer season in the woods, along the water with a fishing pole, or simply sharing a laugh and a handful of candy with grandchildren and great-grandchildren—brought him great joy. Though he will be deeply missed, the values he lived by and the memories he created will continue to guide and comfort those who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jerry at 11 AM on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at the American Legion Post 54 of Marshfield (2100 S. Maple Street, Marshfield). Lunch at 12 Noon. Open to all family and friends; bring your favorite memories to share.

Jerry’s arrangements are under the care of Life Tributes Funeral Home–Spencer. Family and friends are encouraged to visit www.lifetributesfuneralhome.com to share memories and offer condolences.
