In Loving Memory of James Leonard Maves
December 29, 1940 – August 12, 2025

James Leonard Maves, 84, passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on August 12, 2025.

A memorial service will be held October 25, 11am at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield, WI. A luncheon will follow.

Born in Menomonie, Wisconsin, on December 29, 1940, to Leonard H. and Elinor H. Maves, Jim’s life was defined by devotion to family, faith, service, and a love of the outdoors.

He grew up in Cedar Falls, Wisconsin, before moving with his family to Gary, Indiana, where he graduated as head of his class from Edison High School in 1958. He attended the Gary Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, where he met the love of his life, Jannifer Hubble, and later completed training at the Mayo Clinic School of Nurse Anesthesia.

Jim began his medical career at the Marshfield Clinic in 1964, but soon answered a higher call to serve. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966, serving at Fort Carson, Colorado, and later in Vietnam with the 13th Evacuation Hospital, 25th Infantry Division. His military service continued with the Wisconsin and New Mexico National Guard, culminating in retirement as a Colonel (O6).

A man of adventure, Jim made his home in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Washington, always pursuing his love of hunting, fishing, and exploring the outdoors. He enjoyed reading, supported many charities with a generous heart, and was known for his gift of gab. In 2023, he returned home to Marshfield, Wisconsin.

Jim is survived by his wife, Jannifer; sons, Michael, Robert, and Douglas; seven grandchildren; and his sister, Jackie Fenchak.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering love of family, deep faith, and the joy he found in God’s creation.

A life well-lived. A man deeply loved.
