Evelyn D. “Evie” Schiesl, age 99, of Marshfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at Three Oaks Health Services in Marshfield, under the care of Heartland Hospice, with her dear friends and her beloved cat, Buffy, faithfully by her side.
Evie was born at home in Marshfield on March 13, 1926, to Louis and Margaret (Adler) Schiesl. She attended St. John’s Parochial School and Grant School. Following high school, she worked for two years at the Weinbrenner Shoe Factory. Evie then spent ten years living and working in Monterey, California, before returning to Marshfield.
Upon her return, she began a long career as a telephone operator with G.T.E., serving for 22 years in Marshfield. She later transferred to G.T.E. in Wausau, where she worked an additional nine years before retiring in April 1989.
Evie was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marshfield. She had a lifelong love for animals, especially her cats and dogs, and found joy in traveling by Greyhound bus and visiting the casino.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ervin (Charlotte), Rueben (Penny), Melvin (Marge), Robert (Honey), and Jack (Mary Lou) Schiesl; her sisters, Karleane Schiesl (in infancy), Lorrayne (Kenneth) Seubert, and Valerie (Robert) Muir; as well as many cherished pets.
Evie is survived by several dear nieces and nephews, close friends, and her beloved feline companions, Buffy and Rascal.
In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. Evie will be laid to rest beside her mother at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Marshfield. Memorials may be directed to the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter (MAPS) or the Clark County Humane Society.
