Dons volleyball takes seventh in Menomonie Sprawl

MENOMONIE – Columbus volleyball played in the Menomonie Sprawl at UW-Stout on Aug. 30-31, taking seventh place out of 40 schools.
On Friday, the Dons went 4-0, beating Menomonie, 25-14, 25-18; Ellsworth 25-19, 25-18; Medford 25-15, 25-21; and New Richmond 25-17 and 25-13.
The Dons were placed in the gold bracket for playoffs on Saturday where they went 1-2 for the day. The team was beat by Eau Claire North 24-26, 26-28. A loss to Grantsburg 12-25, 20-25, and a win against Osceola 25-17, 25-22, sealed seventh place.
Dorci Walker had 48 kills, 10 blocks, 39 digs, and 13 aces; Emmalee Jicinsky had 32 kills, 13 blocks, and 43 digs; Jessica Jakopin had 27 kills and 13 blocks; Maria Taylor had 22 kills and 32 digs; Meghan Kibbel had 104 assist, 32 digs, and 8 aces; Sydney Litwaitis had 75 digs; and Emily Nemitz had 8 aces.
“This tournament was a great experience for our team to play some high caliber volleyball against some big schools. We are starting to play together as a team more and showing our potential,” said Coach Katrina Egle.
The Dons next face Auburndale on Sept. 3 in Auburndale.
