Marshfield boys golf finishes third at WIAA Division 1 Rhinelander regional, qualifies for sectionals

Tigers host sectional May 30 at RiverEdge

RHINELANDER — The Marshfield boys golf team put together a solid round to take third place at the WIAA Division 1 regional at Northwood Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Tigers had a score of 348, two shots behind second-place Wausau West and nine behind regional champion Stevens Point.

Marshfield qualifies for the sectional at home on May 30.

The top four teams and top four individuals not on those teams at the regional qualified for the Division 1 sectional on May 30 at RiverEdge Golf Course in Marshfield. The top two teams and top three individuals not on those teams at the sectional will move on to the 2017 WIAA State Boys Golf Tournament at University Ridge Golf Club in Verona on June 5-6.

Derek Michalski led Marshfield with a 79, finishing third overall. Russell Dettmering of Merrill was meet medalist with a 2-under-par 70, six shots ahead of Wausau East’s Matt Tuman.

Brendan Schneider tied for 10th with an 86, Ben Baur had a 91, Grant Michaelis shot a 92, and Zach Hanson had a 94 for Marshfield.
