STEVENS POINT — Stevens Point scored twice in a five-minute span midway through the second half to edge Marshfield 3-2 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer match Thursday night at the Portage County Soccer Complex.

The loss is the first for the Tigers in their last seven games after winning three and tying three in the previous six. Marshfield is now 7-6-3 overall and 3-4-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. Point remains unbeaten, improving to 10-0-2 and 7-0-2 in the Valley.

Stevens Point led 1-0 at halftime before Marshfield forged ahead.

Klaus Friedli scored 5:29 into the second half, and Luke McCann connected on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute to put the Tigers up 2-1.

Joey Dorgan’s penalty kick goal tied it at the 70:16 mark, and he scored the game-winner 4:56 later.

“The boys played good and had SPASH on their heels with some good scoring opportunities while we were up 2-1,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “They tied it up on a questionable call for a penalty kick, (a) phantom call with no real contact on the play. It was very disappointing when the kids played so well.”

Marshfield hosts Wisconsin Rapids at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Griese Park.
