STRATFORD — The Stratford football team took one more step toward its first outright Marawood Conference title since 2007 with a 28-0 shutout of Auburndale on Friday night at Tiger Stadium.
The Tigers won their sixth-straight game to improve to 6-1 overall and are now 6-0 in the Marawood Conference. Stratford can clinch a tie for the conference championship with a win at Pittsville next Friday and win it outright by winning its final two games, which includes its finale on Oct. 14.
Stratford last tied for the conference title in 2013 with Marathon and Edgar. The outright win in 2007 capped a string of seven-straight either outright or shared Marawood titles for the Tigers.
Auburndale falls to 3-4 overall and 3-3 in the Marawood. The Apaches need to win one of their final two games to reach the WIAA playoffs. Auburndale hosts Marathon for its homecoming game on Oct. 7 and closes out its season at Tomahawk on Oct. 14.
