WAUSAU – The Marshfield boys soccer team won its third straight game, edging Wausau West 2-1 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference matchup Thursday.

All of the scoring came within a span of 4:05 midway through the second half.

Hunter McManus scored 16:54 into the second half on an assist by Alex Sainterme to put Marshfield up 1-0, but the Warriors quickly struck back on a score from Charlie Kessil just 23 seconds later.

Ryan Hayes scored what proved to be the game-winning goal 3:42 after that for Marshfield as it handed West its first loss of the season.

The Tigers are now 8-6-2 overall and 3-3-1 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. West drops to 3-1-5 and 2-1-3 in the conference.

Trevyn Tham had six saves in goal for Marshfield.

Marshfield coach Steve McCann said Thomas Kruger made some strong defensive plays along the goal line backing up Tham in the net.

The Tigers play at Wausau East on Tuesday to finish off three straight conference games on the road.
