MARSHFIELD – Wood County’s conservation department is planning its first-ever summit on invasive species, and the free event is open to everyone.
The Central Wisconsin Invasive Species Summit will feature presentations by field experts from several organizations, including the Wisconsin First Detector Network and the Central Wisconsin Invasives Partnership, and there also will be a nature walk led by a local master naturalist.
Participants can learn about the importance of native plants, what invasive species are and what can be done to help monitor and prevent the spread of invasive species.
The summit will be May 20 at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point at Marshfield in the STEM Jean’s Vanguard Community Room. It starts at 9:30 a.m. and includes lunch served at 11:45 a.m., followed by the nature walk through the arboretum.
Registration is required by May 13 by calling the Wood County Land & Water Conservation Dept. at (715) 421-8475 or sending email to landcons@woodcountywi.gov.
