Stratford wrestling has two state champions; Local wrestlers make podium

MARSHFIELD –
Gavin Drexler (126) won his championship over Bo Niewiadomski of Rosholt. Drexler pinned his opponent in the third period to win the title. Trevor Dennee (195) of Stratford also won his weight bracket to earn the state champ title over Shamus Mclain of Coleman. Dennee won the match with a 9-4 decision.
Also representing the Stratford Tigers at the state tournament was Max Schwabe (132). Schwabe wrestled in the championship match for his weight bracket. Max lost a tough battle against Alex Birchman of Fennimore by an 8-6 decision. Elijah Lucio (138) did not place for the Tigers after losing both of his matches on Feb. 28. Jacob Heiden (152) wrestled for fifth place on Feb. 29, but fell to Mason Haas of Amherst in 1:35. Devin Dennee (160) placed third at the state competition after winning his final match Nick Blaschke of Fennimore in an 8-1 decision.
Marshfield
Marshfield wrestling sent five wrestlers to the state tournament. Keagan Cliver (120) finished fifth for the Tigers after pinning Jacob Wisinski of Mukwonago. Brett Franklin (132) placed sixth on Feb. 29 in a match against Tyler Goebel of Mukwonago, who beat him with an 8-2 decision. Also participating for Marshfield was Gabe Pugh (138), who lost his first match on Feb. 27 to Andrew Lopez of DePere. Ryan Dolezal (145) lost his first match on Feb. 27 by pin, to Waunakee’s Berhett Statz. Hoyt Blaskowski (126) took his first match, but ended 2-2 at the tournament and did not place.
Auburndale
Auburndale’s Dylan Baird (138) finished on the podium with a second place finish. Baird wrestled Karson Capser of Coleman for the championship on Feb. 29, and after a hard fought battle, lost in overtime with a 4-2 decision.
Pittsville
Peter Esser (106) of Pittsville finished in sixth place at the state tournament. Esser wrestled against Jonah Dennis of Riverdale in the fifth place match, where he lost with a 10-6 decision. Camron Dammann (132) lost his first round match against Matt Anderson of Clear Lake and did not place.
Spencer/Columbus Catholic
Spencer/Columbus sent Ashton and Trayton Ackman to the state tournament. Ashton Ackman (113) lost his first match in the tournament and did not place. Trayton (120) won his first match to move on. Trayton would end up wrestling for the Division 2, 120 pound fifth place title. Ackman won that match over over Waupaca’s Kaleb Mannel by major decision, 8-0.
Neillsville/Granton/Loyal
NGL had two wrestlers compete in the Division 2 state tournament. Luke Dux (106) wrestled for third place and won. Dux wrestled Parker Heintz of Lodi in the match where he got a 5-1 decision win. Gunner Hoffman (220) also participated at the state tournament. Hoffman placed sixth in his weight bracket, after losing a 4-1 decision against Kyle Dietzen of Omro.
