Garage fire causes extensive damage
A press release from the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department
MARSHFIELD — Marshfield Fire and Rescue received a report of a garage on fire at 301 Marathon St. at 4:47 p.m. on Oct. 2. While en route, crews could detect heavy smoke from a distance. A full alarm was requested, which brought additional manpower and resources.
Upon arrival, the incident commander reported a fully involved attached garage with fire extending into the house. The alarm was extended to a box alarm, which brought in additional fire crews from Hewitt Fire Department to staff any additional calls within the city.
It was confirmed the building occupants had evacuated the building prior to the arrival of the fire department. Crews worked to protect adjacent homes and conducted an exterior attack on the residence due to structural compromise. The roof of the home suffered a partial collapse, the home sustained extensive damage, and a car parked in the driveway also sustained significant damage. The damage assessment is ongoing, but the initial dollar loss estimate is in excess of $200,000.
Eleven fire fighters worked on scene. Units remained on scene until 10:51 p.m. No injuries were reported.
The fire origin and cause is currently under investigation by the Marshfield Fire Investigation Team with assistance from the Wood County Fire Investigation Task Force.
