NEILLSVILLE – Ice jams on the Black River and the Big Eau Pleine River are causing flooding issues.
An ice jam on the Black River, just south of Neillsville, is causing some high water in the area.
The Clark County Sheriff’s Department is reminding visitors to the area to stay clear of ice jams, as they may be dangerous.
“There is an increasing amount of people coming to check it out,” the department issued in a statement. “Please be careful, when these ice jams let loose they do so with incredible power, some of these chunks of ice can weigh thousands of pounds…no selfie is worth that risk.”
A flood warning has been issued for the Big Eau Pleine River near Stratford.
According to the National Weather Service the river reached 15.6 feet on March 25, which is above the flood stage of 15.5 feet.
