SPENCER – The Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team continued its early-season success by blasting Neillsville 60-6 in a Cloverbelt Conference game Friday night at Spencer High School.
The Rockets scored seven first-half touchdowns to cruise to the victory and improve to 3-0 overall and in the Cloverbelt. Neillsville is now 1-2 and 0-2 in the conference.
Hunter Luepke had a pair of touchdown runs and 81 yards on just four carries in the first half. Ryan Busse recovered a blocked punt and returned it for a touchdown, Jonny Tomke, Noah Zastrow and Austin Post ran for scores, and Ryan Busse caught a 33-yard scoring pass from Calvin Lenz for the other scores in the first half for the Rockets.
Jacob Miller and Carson Hildebrandt each had touchdown runs in the second half to cap the scoring.
“We came out and were very disciplined and executed well,” Spencer/Columbus coach Jason Gorst said. “Our defense was tremendous through the whole evening. We like keeping our carries balanced right now on offense. I was really proud of the way our young guys played in the second half.”
S/C had 349 yards rushing on 43 carries and held Neillsville to just 26 total yards of offense. Neillsville’s only score was an 82-yard kickoff return by Jahean McGee in the second quarter.
Spencer/Columbus hosts Colby in another Cloverbelt matchup next Friday at Spencer High School.
