Stratford rolls at Stanley-Boyd Duals
Stratford lost just three matches as it rolled to five dual meet victories to take the team title at the Stanley-Boyd Duals on Dec. 22.
Stratford shutout North Crawford/Seneca 84-0, Superior 76-0, and Ladysmith 74-0, and also dominated Chippewa Falls 70-10 and Stanley-Boyd 71-3 to finish 5-0.
Manny Drexler finished 5-0 at 113 pounds, winning four matches by pin, all coming in less than 1 minute of action. The other win came by forfeit.
Karter Stuttgen (106), A.J. Schoenfuss (126), Max Schwabe (132), Derek Marten (138), Jeremy Schoenherr (145), Jake Drexler (152), Devin Dennee (160), Trevor Dennee (170), Aiden Hoffman (195), Dylan Schoenherr (220), and Hector Rojas (285) all finished 5-0 as well for the Tigers.
Results from the Bi-State Classic will be in next week’s edition.
SC moves to 5-0 in Cloverbelt
Spencer/Columbus took firm control of first place in the Cloverbelt Conference with a narrow 36-35 win over Cadott on Dec. 22 at Spencer High School.
Spencer/Columbus is now 5-0 in conference action and sent Cadott (3-1) to their first conference defeat.
Logan Zschernitz earned a first-period pin at 285 pounds, Dominick Wichlacz had a pin at 120, Carson Hildebrandt (170) won by technical fall, and Leo Rodgriguez had a major decision at 113 for the Rockets.
Ashton Ackman (106) and Hunter Luepke (220) each won key forfeits for Spencer/Columbus. Bryce Shaw had the other win for the Rockets at 145.
“It was a great dual in a great atmosphere,” Spencer/Columbus coach Jake Zschernitz said. “Everyone did their job and we got a big conference win. We knew it would come down to bonus points and the guys did a great job getting wins where we needed them.”
Marshfield wins at Rapids
Marshfield won four matches by pin and pulled out two one-point victories to beat Wisconsin Rapids 48-19 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference wrestling dual meet Dec. 21 at Lincoln High School.
Sam Mitchell earned a pin with 10 seconds left in the first period to win at 195 pounds, and Caden Dennee (126), Caden Pearce (145), and Bentley Schwanebeck-Ostermann (170) also had pins for the Tigers, who improve to 2-0 in the Valley this season.
Nolan Hertel (152) and Isaac Slark (182) each won 5-4, Gabe Pugh (113) earned an 11-5 win, Tanner Kanable (132) won 5-1, and Alex Brost (220) and Conner Berry (285) won by forfeit for the Tigers.
BOYS HOCKEY
Marshfield blanked at DCE
Marshfield managed just 12 shots on goal and were blanked by D.C. Everest 8-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference game Dec. 21 at Greenheck Fieldhouse.
Ben Weller hit for a hat trick and J.J. Berdal had a pair of goals for the Evergreens (7-3, 2-1 Wisconsin Valley Conference).
Jakob Schmidt and A.J. Trierweiler split time in goal for Marshfield (6-7, 0-4 WVC), with Schmidt tallying 29 saves and Trierweiler seven.
