Spencer drops game at Colby
Colby took over first place in the Cloverbelt Conference East Division with a 62-32 victory over Spencer on Dec. 22 at Colby High School.
Ten different Hornets (7-1, 6-1 Cloverbelt East) scored in the win, their seventh in a row since a season-opening loss at Columbus Catholic.
Lexi Baehr led Spencer (1-7, 1-6 Cloverbelt East) with 20 points and Kaily Northup added 10. The rest of the team combined for just two points in the loss, the Rockets’ seventh straight.
Marshfield edges Hudson
Jenna Jakobi scored 25 points and Marshfield overcame 19 turnovers to knock off Hudson 67-63 in a game at the Marshfield Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament on Dec. 27 at Marshfield High School.
Jakobi was 6 of 9 from the field and made 13 of 17 free throws to lead the Tigers’ to the win. Katie Osinski added 19 points on 7-for-11 shooting, and Marshfield shot 57 percent (20 of 35) overall from the field and 27 of 42 at the free throw line.
Hudson (4-6) led 35-32 at halftime before the Tigers rallied to take the win.
Marshfield (3-5) forced 24 turnovers and the Raiders were just 12 of 21 from the free throw line.
Marshfield played Oshkosh North in the final game of the tournament on Dec. 28. Due to an early holiday deadline, this game was not completed in time for this edition.
Marshfield fell one point short of a win on Dec. 21, losing 64-63 to Eau Claire North in a nonconference game at home.
The game was tied 34-34 at halftime and remained tight before North (4-5) was able to pull out the victory.
Marshfield had an efficient offensive game, shooting 48 percent (21 of 43) from the field, making 4 of 5 3-pointers, and knocking down 17 of 22 free throws, but missed a possible game-winner in the final seconds.
Jakobi led the way for the Tigers with 19 points. Osinski added 13 points, and Meg Bryan and Hannah Meverden each had 11 points. Meverden also had 11 rebounds.
