MARSHFIELD — Ricky Perez scored with only 4:02 left in the game to lift Stevens Point to a 1-0 victory over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference boys soccer game Tuesday at Griese Park.

Marshfield goalie Tommy Olson turned back all seven Stevens Point shots until Perez broke the scoreless tie.

Stevens Point is now 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the WVC. Marshfield falls to 3-9 and 1-6 in conference play.

“It was a good contest and a competitive game that looked like it might end in a tie,” Marshfield coach Steve McCann said. “It was a great defensive effort by back four, led by senior Tyler Meyer. We can still be better, but the improvements are encouraging.”

Marshfield returns to action Thursday at Wisconsin Rapids. The game is at 7 p.m. at Washington Elementary School.
