Madison, Beloit qualify for Great Lakes Regional

By Paul Lecker

Sports Reporter

MARSHFIELD — Madison Impact defeated Beloit 7-4 in the championship game of the Wisconsin Class AAA State American Legion Baseball Tournament at Jack Hackman Field on Saturday night.

Madison (33-3) repeats as state champions and moves on to the Great Lakes Regional at Edwardsville, Illinois, on Aug. 3-7, along with Beloit (29-7) as Wisconsin sends two teams to the tournament.

The regional — that also involves state champions from Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and the host team of Alton, Illinois — will be played at the Simmons Baseball Complex on the campus of Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. The winner of the double-elimination tournament moves on to the Class AAA American Legion Baseball World Series at Shelby, North Carolina, on Aug. 11-16.

Beloit and Madison reached the championship game with wins earlier in the day on Saturday. Beloit eliminated Eau Claire with a 12-6 win, and Madison edged De Pere 7-6.

Marshfield wrapped up its season on Friday night, losing 10-4 to De Pere. The Blue Devils finished the year with a 23-9 record.
