Stratford baseball, softball teams win home games over Auburndale

STRATFORD — The Stratford baseball and softball teams swept Marawood Conference South Division games from Auburndale on Monday.

In the baseball game, Auburndale led 3-1 after one inning and 5-1 after 4 ½ innings but could not hold on as Stratford rallied for four runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to pull out the victory.

Paul Willfahrt was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to lead Auburndale (0-1 overall and Marawood South)

Stratford (1-2 overall, 1-0 Marawood South) statistics were not provided.

Stratford trailed 1-0 after Auburndale scored a run in the top of the second inning before routing the Apaches 16-1 in the softball contest.

Stratford scored a pair of runs in the second inning, eight in the third, and six more in the fourth to roll to the win and improve to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The game was Auburndale’s season opener.

Jessica Schwabe and Kiana Weiler combined on a three-hitter for the Tigers, with Schwabe earning the win with three strikeouts in four innings.

Brittany Bredemann and Kaylee Geiger each went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Stratford.

Hannah Bolder hit a home run to account for Auburndale’s lone run.
