School: Marshfield High School
Sport: Varsity football
Coach: Dennis Goettl
Question: What are your overall expectations for the team this season, and what is the team's primary goal?
Answer: Well, we want to get back on the right track as far as Marshfield football is concerned. We have to get some meaningful wins under the belt. So we are focused on getting that done. We expect to compete with the best teams this year.
Q: Which returning players will be key leaders for the team, and what makes them stand out?
A: We will be on the younger side this season. We had a bunch of sophomores get playing time last year, and they will be expected to contribute a lot this year as well.
We don’t have a senior QB coming back but we have a stable of kids that will be vying for the Job. They are junior Trevyn Freis, sophomore Gavin Larson, Brock Vanderwyst, and Freshman Ethan Foemmel.
Lucas Halan was a spot player last year on defense and offense. He has been playing middle linebacker in camp and playing some QB in situations. Grant Allar, Jace Frick, Oliver Martin, Sam Granger, Peyton Klute, Austin Springer, Cooper Berry and Sam Heiman have been the guys that make up our offensive line at this point.
The running back position can be filled with four juniors at his point in practice. Haiden Carlson, Josh Taylor, Harland Meissner and Adrian Peiper all have different skill sets and are looking to get on the field.
The receiving core is made of seniors Jake Sadawska, Logan Bell, Triton Gross, Ben Jordan and juniors Landon Trubee, Cam Kolstad. The tight ends this camp so far have been Vedder Mctaggert, Derek Stroetz and Derek Ogna.
On the defensive side of the ball, we like every year lost some key players, but are looking to be a strong defense like always. As I said Lucas Halan will be a LB as well as senior Ethan Trulen and junior Wes Novitzke.
At DB we have seniors Jackson Anderson, Beckett Mcfarlane, Easton Ledden, Jon Sternweis and Kole Kenney. Notable guys here are Will Krause and Brody Karl. On the DL we have Aaron Ogna, Keegan Young, Kaden Reisner, Keegan Young and Carson Klumb.
Q: Are there any newcomers or underclassmen who have impressed you in the offseason and could make a significant impact?
A newcomer would be Aaron Ogna. He came over to us from the soccer program. He made himself in the weight room over the past few years. He still has a lot to work on but has the tools to do it. Keegan Young also transferred positions from fullback to DL. Newcomers at QB are Trevyn Freis and Gavin Larson.
Q: What do you consider to be the team's greatest strength this year?
A: I am hoping that we are very balanced this year. We have some offensive weapons which is nice but very unproven. We graduated a bunch of guys but we always do.
Q: Looking at your schedule, what are you most anticipating and why?
A: Game one (Aug. 21) at New Richmond. We have not beaten them ever. We have a meat grinder of a schedule.
Q: What message would you like to share with the community and fans as they prepare to support the team this season?
A: Come out and support High School Athletics. It doesn’t get any better.
