High school football season kicks off

MARSHFIELD – The 2025 high school football season is underway, with area teams kicking off their nine-game schedules Aug. 21-22.

New Richmond 49, Marshfield 25

In a battle of Tigers teams, New Richmond put seven touchdowns on the board, in their non-conference win over Marshfield Aug. 21 at Tiger Stadium in New Richmond.

Quarterback Lukas Halan scored Marshfield’s lone first-quarter touchdown on a six-yard carry.

In the second quarter, running back Haiden Carlson found the end zone from 26 yards out.

Quarterback Ethan Foemmel found Ben Jordan from 22 yards out in the fourth quarter, after Aaron Ongna booted a 24-yard field goal for the Tigers to open the quarter.

Auburndale 35, Spencer/Columbus 27

The Auburndale Eagles used three fourth-quarter touchdowns to come from behind, defeating the Rockets of Spencer/Columbus 35-27 on Aug. 22 at Auburndale High School.

Nathan Van Wyhe led the Eagles in rushing, with 104 yards on 21 carries. Quarterback Peyton Weinfurter added 75 yards on 11 rushes, including touchdown runs of 34 and 42 yards. Ray Teska ran the ball five times for 48 yards and one score. He also caught a touchdown pass.

Jack Hoeper led the Rockets’ ground game, 170 yards on 29 carries and two scores.

S/C quarterback Mac Konieczny connected on 15 of 23 pass attempts for 117 yards and two touchdowns.

Mosinee 26, Stratford 19

The Stratford Tigers did something Aug. 22 they had not done in 728 days. They lost a football game.

The Tigers lost their non-conference season opener with Mosinee, 26-19, ending a streak of 26 straight wins and giving Stratford a record of 38-4-1 since 2022, which includes three consecutive state championships.

Colby 29, Stanley-Boyd 12

The Colby Hornets football team on Aug. 22 scored their first victory in Stanley-Boyd since 2019, when they defeated the Orioles 29-12, in a non-conference matchup.

Quarterback Luke Hannula led Colby with 28 rushes for 228 yards and two touchdowns. Chase Heeg added 184 yards on 25 carries and two scores.

Defensively, Brennan Geiger led the Hornets with seven tackles. Hannula had six. Colby held Stanley-Boyd to 135 total yards.
