MARSHFIELD – The Toronto Blue Jays are avoiding salary arbitration with outfielder Daulton Varsho of Marshfield, and signing Daulton to a one-year contract worth $10,750,000.
This is Daulton’s final season of club control, and he will be eligible for free agency next winter.
Varsho has become a premier defensive center fielder for the Blue Jays, earning the 2024 American League Gold Glove Award for that position.
He was bothered by injuries last season, not making his season debut until late April due to off-season shoulder surgery.
He also missed about two months of action last summer because of a hamstring injury.
Nonetheless, Daulton’s offense improved in 2025, and in 71 games, he hit .238, with 20 home runs and 55 rbis.
He now has a career batting average of .227, with 99 major league home runs in six seasons with Arizona and Toronto.
