Art club celebrates diamond anniversary

Posted

PORT EDWARDS – The Brush and Palette Club is celebrating its diamond anniversary this month with a special exhibition at The Alexander House, where members have showcased their work since 1985.

What started as informal sketching gatherings has evolved into a dynamic group of 14 artists who work across diverse mediums—from traditional oil and watercolor paintings to contemporary fiber arts and intricate basket weaving.

"The club has weathered decades of change while maintaining its core mission of supporting local artists," said Connie Henke, art director at Alexander House.

While none of the original fence-post exhibitors remain, today's members carry forward that spirit of community and creativity through monthly meetings where they share work, offer feedback and learn from guest speakers.

Recent energy has come from the club's merger with the Rome Artists Group, creating fresh opportunities for collaboration and growth. Together, they're planning art-related field trips and joint exhibitions that promise to expand their creative horizons.

The anniversary exhibition opens Friday, June 27, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m., inviting the community to witness how far this grassroots artistic movement has traveled – from those early fence posts to the elegant gallery walls of The Alexander House.

The exhibition runs through Aug. 12. Gallery hours are 1-4 p.m. Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Alexander House is at 1131 Wisconsin River Drive, Port Edwards.
