MARSHFIELD — On Thursday, Sept. 17, nearly 150 women from across the state will attend The 14th Annual Gathering, a free health conference in Marshfield. The Gathering is held in partnership with the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation and Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital as a step in communication and resource sharing for participants in programs such as EveryWoman’s Journal, proactive health journaling techniques as a tool for increased self-awareness; the GrapeVine Project, nurses who provide women with health information that affects women disproportionately or differently than men; First Breath, smoking cessation for pregnant women; and My Baby & Me, alcohol cessation for pregnant women.
“The Gathering gives women, especially those in rural and underserved areas, the opportunity to network and attend workshops that provide additional health education and stress management skills,” said Sue Ann Thompson, founder and president of the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation. “We are privileged to have partnered for 14 years now with Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, a leading teaching and rural referral center with a long-standing commitment to the health and well-being of all women.”
The Gathering will be held Thursday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. – 2:45 p.m. at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, 611 St Joseph Ave. in Marshfield. This year’s theme is “Connecting the Dots: From Clinical Trials to Healthy Lifestyles.”
The Gathering includes presentations, health exhibits, lunch, activities, and time to socialize.
The Clinical Trials Education Network of Wisconsin’s panel of experts will address clinical trials, the benefits trials provide in the search for new therapies and cures, and the importance of having women participate in clinical trials. They will provide copies of Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America’s report “Research in Your Backyard” and talk about the numerous clinical trials in Wisconsin that focus on diseases such as asthma, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, mental illness, and stroke.
This event will also feature two health educators’ presentations: “Juggling Stress” from author and motivational wellness speaker Eliz Greene and “Exploring the Mouth-Body Connection” from David Gundersen of First Choice Dental.
A limited number of registration openings are still available. There is no cost to attend, and workshop materials and lunch are provided. Visit wwhf.org for additional information and to register. The registration deadline is Sept. 10.
