Youth group donates $1,000 to Nutrition On Weekends program
Submitted by Krista Krause
MARSHFIELD — On Aug. 24 Warriors of Christ youth group presented the United Way Nutrition On Weekends program with a check for $1,000. The funds were raised by the youth group through a car show event held on Aug. 8 at the Town of Marshfield Hall in Hewitt.
Youth from Immanuel Lutheran Church coordinated efforts with local classic car connoisseurs to promote, organize, and facilitate their first annual car show. The objective of this family friendly event began as an opportunity to provide an enriching and educational experience for the youth by immersing them in their local community.
The youth gained much more. What they discovered was a deep, committed generosity and kindness from their local community and some wonderful car people. The funds raised far exceeded any dollar amount the children expected. When the children were provided the option to either keep the money for their youth group or donate to a local charity, they unanimously voted to give it to others who really need it.
Nutrition On Weekends is a community program that targets childhood hunger. Volunteers prepare food packs each week throughout the summer and school year to provide children with nutritional meals that will last through the weekend. Visit marshfieldareaunitedway.org/NOW for more information.
Thank you to all the youth group members, car show sponsors, volunteers, and spectators who made this donation possible.
