SPENCER – The Spencer/Columbus football team beat Altoona on Oct. 18 at home and heads into the playoffs for the sixth consecutive year.
“I was proud of our effort,” said Head Coach Jason Gorst. “We made some pretty big plays on our returns that gave us a short field on offense. We were efficient and did not make big mistakes.”
S/C jumped ahead in the first quarter when Eden Jacobson ran in a nine-yard touchdown, then secured a two-point conversion.
The second quarter brought scoring by both teams, with Austin Bacon running in a touchdown and following that up with a two-point conversion.
Altoona was able to earn a touchdown run, but S/C came back with a 20-yard Bacon touchdown run and another Jacobson two-point conversion. That ended scoring in the first half at 24-6.
S/C continued its run in the third quarter with a touchdown run from Hayden Bauman and two from Jacobson.
Altoona also grabbed another touchdown in the third quarter, but remained scoreless in the fourth.
Max McGiveron’s 33-yeard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, followed by a Zach Dunbar extra point, ended the game at 49-12.
