WISCONSIN RAPIDS — A 25-year-old Neillsville man faces three charges stemming from a June 2016 traffic stop in the city of Marshfield.
Dustin S. Garlach of Neillsville was traveling on Galvin Avenue when officers pulled him over for a license plate violation.
During the stop, the Marshfield K-9 unit was called in to assist. The K-9 indicated the presence of a controlled substance, and officers searched Garlach’s vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, officers found the vehicle’s glove compartment locked. When officers asked for the keys to the compartment, Garlach refused to turn them over.
Officers attempted to gain access to the keys while the defendant resisted. After Garlach was secured by handcuffs, officers retrieved the keys.
Police opened the compartment and found what appeared to be drug paraphernalia and what the defendant admitted was methamphetamine. The presence of methamphetamine was confirmed by the state crime lab.
Garlach faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, a class I felony that comes with $10,000 in fines and/or three years and six months imprisonment; possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor that could result in $500 in fines or 30 days imprisonment or both; and resisting an officer, a class A misdemeanor that could result in $10,000 in fines and/or nine months imprisonment.
