ShowCase Players and Colby Public Library build a better playhouse
By Kevin Wyeth
COLBY — The ShowCase Players (SCP), a nonprofit community theater group headquartered in the Colby and Abbotsford, recently partnered with the Colby Public Library to develop its summer reading program, Build a Better World. SCP will perform at the library on June 29, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Vicky Calmes, the director of the Colby Public Library, asked SCP if it could build an indoor house to go along with the theme of Build a Better World. Kevin and Bonnie Wyeth and Melissa Fleischmann and her two ShowCase Players Junior Cadets Reed and Audrey Fleischmann helped design and build the SCP Playhouse for the library.
In keeping with the idea of putting “community” in community theater and the way in which the arts can help to build stronger communities, the SCP Playhouse is designed to look like a set for a play. The name “playhouse” can mean a venue where plays are performed, or it can mean a house in which one can play.
Community service is one way the ShowCase Players tries to build a better world.
