MARSHFIELD — Justin Glodowski, a teacher at Marshfield High School, has been named the 2023 Wisconsin History Teacher of the Year, an award presented annually by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to K–12 American history education.
Inaugurated in 2004 and now celebrating its twentieth anniversary, the History Teacher of the Year award highlights the crucial importance of history education by honoring exceptional American history teachers from elementary school through high school. The award honors one K–12 teacher from each state, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and US Territories.
In addition to a $1,000 honorarium, Glodowski receives a core archive of American history books and Gilder Lehrman educational materials and recognition at a local ceremony in their honor, and becomes one of 53 finalists for the 2023 National History Teacher of the Year Award.
Justin is in his 13th year teaching high school social studies. He currently teaches AP US Government and Politics, AP Comparative Government and Politics, and Genocide and Human Rights and has a master’s degree in Teaching American History and Government from Ashland University. He has served on the Wisconsin Council for the Social Studies as a board member, Vice President, and, more recently, as President. Justin has also worked with the National Constitution Center and the Retro Report on teacher advisory groups.
“Justin’s interactive approach to improving student learning is apparent when looking at his commitment to his instructional practice, classroom environment and involvement with local and state organizations,” said Jackson Hein, Principal at Marshfield High School. “He continues to establish himself as an educational leader, inspiring mentor, and lifelong learner in the field of Social Studies. Our students and staff at Marshfield High School are very fortunate to have the opportunity to learn and grow with Justin on a daily basis,” Hein added. “We’d like to congratulate Justin for receiving this incredible recognition, it is well deserved.”
