Tigers win Marshfield Invite

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tigers volleyball team won its own invitational Sept. 2 at Marshfield High School.
The Tigers finished 5-0 in the tournament and captured first place.
Marshfield defeated Ladysmith 2-0 (25-14, 25-8), Mondovi 2-0 (25-11, 25-12), Antigo 2-0 (25-22, 25-7), Abbotsford 2-0 (27-25, 25-12) and Shawano 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 15-8).
The Tigers were led by Abby Ongna with 46 kills and 32 digs. Lauren Homolka recorded 26 kills. Grace Taylor had 20 kills, 12 aces and 26 digs. Kaylie Charron registered 15 kills. Ashlyn Barwick had 36 digs. Kailyn Kurth recorded 101 assists.
Shawano finished the tournament in second place, with a record of 4-1. Abbotsford was third at 2-3. Antigo went 2-3 and finished in fourth place. Ladysmith (1-4) came in fifth, while Mondovi (1-4) finished in sixth place.
Marshfield was 17-1 overall following the invite, and 1-0 in conference competition.
The Tigers host Merrill Sept. 7 at Marshfield High School. The Tigers will then travel to Schofield Thursday, Sept. 14 to face D.C. Everest, followed by a home match versus Wausau West on Thursday, Sept. 21 at MHS.
