MARSHFIELD – A Neillsville teenager died after crashing his car while apparently speeding and driving drunk. The crash occurred on a dead-end street in the midnight hour of July 27.

The Marshfield Police Department, along with the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department, responded to a one-vehicle crash in the 200 block of E. Veterans Pkwy at approximately 12:51 a.m. Officers and paramedics arrived and found a single person inside the car with critical injuries. The driver was identified as Abraham Drinka, 18, of Neillsville. Paramedics extracted Drinka and transported him to the Marshfield Medical Center, where he died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The investigation revealed the crash originated on S. Cedar Ave. at abandoned E. First Street, near the rear parking lot of the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library. According to Marshfield police, Drinka was northbound on Cedar, when he failed to stop where the street ends, and his vehicle proceeded up an embankment and came to rest on Veterans Parkway.

The crash is still under investigation, but excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be factors for the crash, according to the Marshfield Police Department.
