Why did you choose UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?
It was the perfect opportunity for me to start my education and get a grasp on the college experience. I have been able to save money by living at home with my parents and continuing to work.

What surprised you the most about the university when you arrived on campus?
What surprised me most was the number of scholarship opportunities available for students. If students fill out the scholarship application for UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield, they will be considered for many different scholarships based on an array of criteria.

How or when did you discover your purpose? How did UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield faculty/staff help?
For years I have aspired to become a doctor. The UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield faculty and staff are helping me achieve this goal by providing an innovative, supportive and safe environment for me to pursue my education.

Why did you choose your program/major?
I chose biochemistry as my major because it includes all of the classes necessary for me to go to medical school, including chemistry and biology along with other science-based classes such as physics, anatomy and physiology. I particularly enjoy these classes, so I am really looking forward to continuing my education.

Who has been your favorite professor or staff member?
They all have been very nice and welcoming. If I had to pick certain staff members that stand out, I would recognize the maintenance workers. I see them constantly working to clean, maintain and improve campus. They are also very welcoming and fun to talk to in the hallways between classes. They brighten many students’ days.

In addition to being a college student, what takes up your free time?
I am a Student Ambassador and a part of Student Senate at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield. I also work as a nursing assistant at the local hospital. With the rest of my free time,I attend my younger sister’s high school sporting events to cheer her on and I help around my family’s farm.

What do you plan to do after attending UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield?
I plan to study abroad, then transfer to a four-year university to complete my undergraduate degree in biochemistry. Once I complete my degree, I hope to attend medical school in the Midwest.

To make the most of their college experience, what advice do you have for incoming students?
My advice for incoming students would be to utilize all the resources given to you, especially at UW-Stevens Point at Marshfield. There are numerous opportunities for scholarships and activities. Class sizes are smaller than typical college classes, so always ask questions. The professors are more than willing to help.
