Tiger girls cross country takes conference title; Boys place fourth

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Tiger Girls Cross Country Team took the Wisconsin Valley Conference (WVC) cross country title at Nine Mile Forest on Oct. 13.

Marshfield placed first, with 31, trailed by Wisconsin Rapids, at 57; DC Everest, 94; Wausau East, 96; Wausau West, 115; and Merrill, 142.

Marshfield placed seven girls in the top 15 and earned Wisconsin Valley All-Conference Awards: Eliana Kanitz, third, First Team WVC, 19:54; Meghan Jaeger, fifth, First Team WVC, 20:50;Michaela Dick, sixth, Second Team WVC, 21:14; Calleigh Kanitz, seventh, Second Team WVC, 21:16; Dehlia Kilty, 10th, Second Team WVC, 21:34; Kairi Kim, 11th, Honorable Mention WVC, 21:43; Jerica Mueller, 14th, Honorable Mention WVC, 22:18; Bailey Mueller, 26th, 23:31.

“The girls ran a great race today, and we placed seven runners in top 15; it was a true team effort,” said Coach Dan Akin. “Congratulations to our runners who put the miles in this summer and their hard work paid off for them.  We are all grateful to get to have a season and I think we all appreciate each day and each race that we had.  We had the mentality of enjoying each day and appreciated being together, whatever that looked like. “

This is the Marshfield girls’ first team championship since the 2007 season.

The Marshfield Boys placed fourth, with 85, in the WVC meet, behind Wausau West, 38; Wisconsin Rapids, 63; and DC Everest, 64. Wausau East trailed, with 113, and Merrill finished with 183.

Henry Hoerneman took third at 17:42 and received First Team WVC honors.

James Ketterer finished at 17th, 19:11; with David McKee, 20th, 19:22; Myles Jensen, 22nd, 19:30; Jesse Messmann, 23rd, 19:30; Seth Oemig, 25th, 19:34; Thomas Cashmer, 27th, 19:42; Ian Brunson, 29, 19:44.
