Harold James “Jim” Parmelee

Harold James “Jim” Parmelee, age 87, of  Marshfield, passed away Tuesday, October  9, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.  Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Faith Lutherans Church (207 S Cherry Street) in Marshfield. Visitation will be held at Faith Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield.

Born November 18th, 1930 in Marshfield to Harold F. and Lillian (Coaty) Parmelee.  Married Shirley Bumgarner on September 5, 1954. After graduating from High School Jim signed a contract with the Cleveland Indian’s baseball team as a pitcher to play with their minor league teams.  Was founder of little league baseball in Marshfield, which he was later inducted into the Marshfield Baseball/Softball Hall of Fame in 2016.  Another accomplishment of his was at the age of 76 he participated in and won a virtual race on an exercise bike to Hawaii which was a 4,212 mile journey completed in 72 days.

He was past president of the Marshfield Eagle’s Club and member of the U.C.T.  Worked at Consolidated Papers Inc. for 37 years and retired January 31st, 1997.   After retirement he was active in volunteer work: delivering meals on wheels, working for “Soup or Socks”, ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, along with various duties for Faith Lutheran Church and Shut-Ins.  He enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Shirley, in which they just celebrated 65 years of marriage. He especially enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jim is lovingly survived by his wife: Shirley; his children: Rose Bolopue, Kathy (Bill) Churkey, Tammy (Barry) Ott, Linda (Jon) Tremelling, Nancy (Al) Fredrickson, and Michelle Parmelee; his grandchildren: Matt (Brenda), Rebecca, Haley, Amy, Mitch, and Dane; as well as his great-grandchildren: Mackensey and Cayden.  He is further survived by his brother: Doyne (Jerelyn) Parmelee.  He will truly be missed.

He is proceeded in death by his parents: Harold and Lillian; sister: Betty Wolfe; as well as his granddaughter: Christine “Chrissy” Churkey.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express their sympathy can do so to the Christine Churkey Memorial Fund at Faith Lutheran Church.
