Lorelei Hilgart, 92, of Auburndale passed away peacefully on Friday October 5, 2018 at the Marshfield Medical Center with her family by her side.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Wed, Oct 10, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Auburndale, with Fr. Antony Arokiyam officiating.  Burial will take place in the parish cemetery following the service.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday, Oct 9, 2018 at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, and from 10:00 until time of service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Lorelei was born in Berkeley, CA on May 20, 1926 to Arthur and Marie (Proesel) Johnson.  She attended Auburndale schools including Pleasant Hill and then graduated from Auburndale High school in 1944. Lorelei married Clarence J. Hilgart on October 3, 1945 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Auburndale.

She raised 9 children on the family farm.  Lorelei had many interests.  She love dancing, gardening, and her baking and cooking skills were keenly honed, especially her sour cream raisin and lemon meringue pies.   She was especially fond of her dog, PeGee and her red jeep sometimes taking it to local basketball games.  She thoroughly enjoyed rides in the country, especially if it ended with an ice cream treat.   Lorelei warmly welcomed many young family friends into her home, setting a good example of a loving family environment.  She enjoyed a glass of wine with friends and family and her sense of humor will always be remembered and will carry us well into the future.

She was a lifetime member of St Mary’s Parish participating in the Christian Mothers Society and later the PCCW.  Lorelei helped with countless meals for weddings, funerals, parish dinners and Lenten fish fries.  Lorelei served her immediate community by serving on the Auburndale Zoning Committee for several years.  She worked for the Township elections last working in the spring of 2017.

Lorelei is survived by her five sons and four daughters Leiann (LeRoy) Altmann of Milladore, Kathleen (Glenn) Linzmeier of Brooklyn, WI, Gary (Madaline) Hilgart of Auburndale, Charles M.  Hilgart of McFarland, James Hilgart of Auburndale, Lois Bernd of Casper, WY,  Janice (Richard) Mulhern of Sheboygan Falls, John (Denise) Hilgart of Auburndale and Robert Hilgart of Mosinee, 17 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Joan Brehm of Beaver Dam and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and son-in-law Michael Bernd.

In lieu of gifts to the family, please consider directing your gift to St. Mary’s  PCCW, to support Lorelei’s passion of the Parish Council of Catholic Women.
