United Way seeking volunteers for emergency response training

For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD – Volunteer Reception Centers (VRC) are a critical component to managing spontaneous volunteer workforce in emergency response and recovery. They help to turn a crowd of spontaneous volunteers into an asset and a workforce, and are essential to avoiding the horror of it becoming a disaster within a disaster. In order to make this happen, trained volunteers are necessary to organize and operate a VRC should the need arise.
Marshfield Area United Way will be holding a training session for individuals interested in joining the Disaster Volunteer Reception Center Response Team for North Wood County. On March 27, participants will learn what a volunteer reception center is, why they are needed, how to get one up and running, and what their roles are as volunteers within the VRC. The training session will be from 5-7 p.m., in the back of the United Way office, 106 W. First St., Marshfield, with dinner provided.
