MARSHFIELD — After last year’s Hub City Days Car Show had nearly 470 vehicles, organizers are going a step farther this year, adding a drawing at Hub City Days on July 29 that will reward one lucky attendee for his or her service to the United States armed forces.
“We are giving an ex-military Humvee that is now available to the public,” said organizer Rodney Feltz. “We just have several of these trucks, and we decided to give one away to a veteran or anybody currently in the armed forces.”
The Humvee was donated on behalf of Dennis Anderson, creator and driver of the Grave Digger monster truck, and Feltz Tire.
“We actually did military axles from the government on a certain forklift, and they used that particular axle on the monster trucks, and that is how I got to know (Anderson) probably close to 15 years ago,” Feltz explained. “Then last year we kind of talked about maybe coming to the car show, and about a month ago he finally confirmed it.
“He will be coming to the car show, and we talked about doing a donation or something, and that is how we came up with this idea.
“Mr. Anderson is one of the most well-liked and known. As far as monster trucks there is no body bigger. … He sent us, like, 300 posters that he can autograph and if anybody wants pictures. He is going to be one of our judges for the Best of Show that day.
“I think it’s just a great idea to show we care and give back, and what I am hoping is that when they see somebody doing this in a smaller town that people will continue this.”
Feltz asks veterans to bring in a military ID or some type of proof to show that they were enrolled in the military.
“We are actually going to give any veteran that comes that day a free T-shirt. We didn’t tell anybody just yet, but if somebody comes there and they win the truck and they decide that they would rather have cash instead, we will give them $5,000, so they could choose between $5,000 cash or the truck,” said Feltz.
Entry for the drawing will take place at the car show registration booth on South Central Avenue in front of the BMO Harris Bank from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m., and the winner must be present to claim the choice of prize.
