Dog struck by car, reckless driving reported
A Marshfield man reported at 5:07 p.m. that a gray car — driven by a white female in her 20s with light brown hair — struck his dog in the alleyway on the 100 block of S. Vine Ave. The man said the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when the incident occurred. Officers did observe two long skid marks left by the vehicle, suggesting the vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed.
The man initially thought the dog may have been injured, but when officers arrived, the dog appeared to be acting normally. The man said he would contact police if he saw the vehicle again, and officers provided an extra patrol for the area.
Thursday, Aug. 11
Police investigate possible harassment
A 21-year-old Marshfield man reported that between Aug. 5 and 10 he had received Facebook messages and a picture from a 19-year-old Marshfield woman. The man was out on bond with a no-contact provision for the woman. The man did not respond to the messages, and he wanted contact with the woman to stop.
Police contacted the woman. She stated that she did not send the messages and that she did not know who did. She agreed to not contact the man.
Woman arrested for battery, man for warrant
Police responded at 12:05 p.m. to a report of an argument on the 100 block of N. Central Ave. During the investigation, police learned that battery occurred when a 24-year-old Pasco, Washington, woman struck her 31-year-old brother in the eye, causing bruising.
The woman was arrested, booked, and transported to Wood County Jail after she was unable to post bond. Police also arrested the brother as he had a valid Clark County warrant.
Friday, Aug. 12
Bicycle stolen from Arnold Street residence
A Marshfield woman reported that her son’s bicycle was stolen from their front yard on the 600 block of W. Arnold St. some time in the past two weeks. No one had permission to take the bicycle.
Marshfield police assist Washburn County Sheriff’s Office
At 1:32 p.m. an investigator with the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office requested that an officer obtain a DNA sample from a child at Saint Joseph’s Hospital related to a Washburn County case. The sample was collected and entered into evidence.
Man arrested for Wisconsin Rapids warrants
A social worker at Saint Joseph’s Hospital requested at 5 p.m. that police check the welfare of two children after their father, a 43-year-old Marshfield man, was seen in the emergency room and admitted to drug use. Officers checked on the children, and they appeared to be fine.
The man was arrested as he had three Wisconsin Rapids warrants. He was brought to the Marshfield Police Department, booked, and then released after bond was posted. The man’s roommate took the children to their mother’s residence. Human services was called and apprised of the situation.
Saturday, Aug. 13
Marshfield man taken into custody for warrant
While on patrol in the area of Ninth Street and Peach Avenue at 12:57 a.m., an officer performed a traffic stop. The driver of the stopped vehicle, a Marshfield man, had an outstanding Wood County arrest warrant.
The man was taken into custody and transported to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was booked. Bond was posted, and the man was released.
Man cited for stealing soda, shorts, lawn chair
Police responded at 1:52 p.m. to a report of retail theft at a store on the 2000 block of N. Central Ave. A loss prevention officer stated he had video of a Marshfield man who went through the self checkout and did not pay for all the items in his cart. The items that were not scanned were two boxes of Coca-Cola, a lawn chair, and a pair of shorts.
The loss prevention officer knew the suspect from a previous incident. Police went to the suspect’s house. The man stated that he did not realize that he did not pay for the soda or the shorts, and he said he planned on leaving the chair, which was why he did not pay for it.
The man was issued a citation for retail for theft. One box of soda, the shorts, and the chair were returned to the store. The other box of soda was in the process of being consumed. Store management requested the man sign a no trespassing form, which he did.
Wedding guest arrested for disorderly conduct
Police responded at 11:51 p.m. to a report of a 25-year-old Wausau man creating a disturbance at a wedding on the 1800 block of S. Roddis Ave. The man became verbally and physically aggressive toward other guests when they prevented him from driving while intoxicated.
When officers arrived, the man continued to be disorderly, yelling profanities and telling police he would punch them if he was not taken to jail. The man was secured and transported to Wood County Jail. Charges will be sent to the Wood County district attorney.
Monday, Aug. 15
Computer crime reported
A Marshfield woman reported that she was on her computer on Aug. 4 when a black screen appeared with a message that she had a virus and she should call a certain phone number. She called the number and spoke to a man who told her that for $250 plus 7 percent tax he could remove the virus.
The woman gave the man her checking account number, and he supposedly removed the virus. A couple days later the black screen happened again. She called the number and was again asked for the money.
The woman contacted her bank, and there was a withdrawal for $289.99. She had cancelled her checking account and stated that the bank may reimburse her. Police advised her to contact law enforcement again if she was reimbursed. The woman also said she would be sent a new computer.
The woman did not know to whom she spoke on the phone or for what company he supposedly worked.
Police locate stolen license plates
While responding to a call at a residence on the 700 block of N. Weber Ave. at 11:40 a.m., an officer checked the registration of the vehicles in the driveway. One of the vehicle’s license plates belonged to a vehicle that the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department had reported stolen.
Marshfield police contacted the Wisconsin Rapids Police Department, and the plates were removed from the vehicle and destroyed.
Tuesday, Aug. 16
Garden damaged, vegetables stolen on Peach Avenue
A Marshfield woman reported that someone had gone into her garden on the 700 block of S. Peach Ave., damaged vines and plants, and stole some vegetables. The woman said she kicked a man out of her garden earlier in the month. She said she did not know the man and had not seen him in the area before. The woman requested an extra patrol in the area.
Pantsless woman found sleeping in vehicle
Police responded at 4:04 a.m. to a report of a suspicious person on the 500 block of S. Maple Ave. A 21-year-old Marshfield woman was discovered sleeping in a vehicle, and she was not wearing any pants or shoes.
Officers detected a heavy odor of alcohol coming from the woman. Police were able to wake the woman up, and her boyfriend arrived shortly after to take her home.
Woman taken into custody for disorderly conduct
Police responded at 5:17 a.m. to a report that a 21-year-old woman was attacking a man at a residence on the 700 block of S. Peach Ave. The woman fled upon officer arrival, and police later located her in a garage across the alley from the residence.
The woman was intoxicated and very angry with the man. She was taken to the Marshfield Police Department for booking, and bond was posted.
Cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia located at residence
At 4:27 p.m. officers were requested to check the welfare of a 31-year-old Marshfield woman after she missed multiple doctors’ appointments. While making contact with the woman at her residence on the 300 block of W. Depot St., officers noticed the odor of marijuana coming from within the residence.
The woman gave officers consent to search the residence, and they located cocaine, marijuana, and numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested the woman and a 30-year-old Milwaukee man and transported them to the Marshfield Police Department for booking procedures. The woman’s children were turned over to her sister.
Intoxicated man damages door, windows, dresser
Police responded at 10:28 p.m. to a report of a man damaging a woman’s property on the 2400 block of E. Hintz St. The man had kicked in the back door to the residence, broke two windows, and destroyed a dresser.
The man had left the area prior to police arrival but was eventually located and taken into custody. Officers located a small amount of marijuana in the man’s pants pocket. The man, who was very intoxicated, stated that he was involved in an argument with the woman but denied damaging any property.
The man refused booking procedures and was transported to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail. Charges are being requested through the Wood County DA.
Marshfield man taken into custody on probation hold
Police took a 25-year-old Marshfield man into custody for a probation hold following a traffic stop on the 2000 block of S. Maple Ave. The man was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, booked, and brought to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail.
